Sustainability at IAP 2024

Going Green Together

IAP is committed to integrating sustainable meeting practices and initiatives that go beyond slogans and result in useful achievements.

We firmly believe that we all have a part to play in preserving our future for generations to come, both locally and across the globe.

Therefore, we are organising our IAP 2024 Congress with sustainability in mind – for our planet and environment, as well as for everyone involved with the event: from the organizing team and committees, through our partner chain, all the way to the delegates we welcome.

The IAP 2024 Congress and the Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs, also known as the Global Goals) are 17 goals with 169 targets that all UN Member States have agreed to work towards achieving by the year 2030. They set out a vision for a world free from poverty, hunger and disease.

We at IAP want to do our part to promote the achievement of these goals in our value chain. The SDGs that we support and work towards are:

Contributions you can make as an IAP 2024 Delegate:

As individuals, as well as a community, each of us can and should contribute towards maintaining the natural ecological balance in the environment and preserving the planet and its natural systems and resources. Here is what we invite you to do as part of the IAP 2024 Congress:

  • Use the mobile app to inquire about the program details and any other Congress-related information.
  • Use more sustainable ways of travelling to and around Cancun.
  • Sort your waste in appropriate bins at venues, hotels, and around the city.
  • Opt for reusable mugs and bottles and refuse single-use plastic.
  • Opt for a vegetarian meal option when available and possible.

End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.

What we are doing:

  • The food items offered to our participants will be seasonal, organic and prepared from local and regional products.
  • Menus will include vegetarian and vegan options.
  • All food & beverage utensils will be reusable or compostable.

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Our top priority is to make high-quality education available to our community. Our goals include eliminating educational gaps between genders; providing more accessible conference options; and enhancing the quality of the scientific program.

What we are doing:

  • Pre-congress courses taught by renowned faculty.
  • Collaboration with international pathology associations in creating multidisciplinary pre-congress companion meeting agendas.
  • Presentations of clinical and laboratory findings from applied research that encourage audience participation.
  • Special keynote presentations delivered by a large number of internationally renowned experts.
  • IAP is sponsoring bursaries to early-career researchers and young investigators in need of financial support to present their research at the Congress.

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

We ensure nondiscrimination and equality for committee members, presenters, and invited speakers.

What we are doing:

  • Aim for and monitor gender equality and nondiscrimination among our delegates, presenters, and committee members.
  • Make our Congress a welcoming, inclusive space for people of all ages, genders, and abilities.
  • Promote more women in committee positions related to the event.
  • Pre-congress session on Women in Pathology and a special session in honor of one of the most recognized female pathologists.
  • Create a program that features diverse topics and speakers from various backgrounds and experiences.

Reduce inequality within and among countries.

We are dedicated to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all participants.

What we are doing:

  • Reduced registration fees for low-resource countries
  • Gender-diverse and balanced faculty to ensure inclusivity and diverse perspectives.
  • Creating a welcoming and accepting environment for all participants, regardless of sex, gender, nationality, race, color, age, or physical disability.

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.

We recognize the environmental impact that large-scale events can have, so sustainable production and consumption are one of our top priorities in organizing the IAP 2024 Congress. We are working with our suppliers to ensure maximum positive change.

What we are doing in:

  • We are limiting printed promotional materials in favor of digital alternatives.
  • We encourage all of our exhibitors to participate in this initiative by reducing single-use giveaways at their booths.
  • We work with our local catering partner to ensure the use of local and seasonal products, to reduce the transportation footprint of the Congress.
